Activity Ideas and Options for Preschoolers
If you have a preschooler at home, it can be difficult to keep her busy all day. You may want to have a few preschooler activities lined up so you have something prepared for that cold or rainy day when you're stuck indoors. There are many fun arts and crafts that you and your preschooler can do together to make an empty day full of fun.
Take a paper or cardboard plate and let your child trace her hand. Then cut out the hand shape from the paper or plate and let your child color it. They can make it look like a turkey, color it like a rainbow, or any other way they want. It can be fun to remember this craft in later years. You can collect your kid's handprint creations from many different years.
Get out some old magazines and construction paper. Let your child go through the magazine and cut out pictures that he likes. The images can be people, food, animals, or anything they find attractive. Help them glue the pictures onto the poster board and then decorate around them. They could add their name, some pictures, stickers, or whatever else you have on hand. Once the paper is dry, flip it over and do the other side. When both are well filled, cover them with laminated paper and you can use it as a placemat. In a very long day, your preschooler can make a rug for everyone in the family or as a gift for friends or relatives.
If you have an empty gallon milk jug, turn it on its side with the handle on top. Let your preschooler draw a mouth at the base and cut out the middle. Then let them use markers to add eyes, fins, and other features. When the creature is complete, you can take it into the bathtub with it for more bath time fun.
Create a new game with your preschooler by wearing those mysterious one-of-a-kind socks. Take out some old socks that are too worn or no longer fit. Make sure they don't have holes and fill them with dried beans or rice. Tie the end of the sock in a knot or add a fancy bow. You just created a sock sack. Repeat the process until you have three or more bags of socks. Next, take out a coffee can, garbage can, laundry basket, or some other similar item and take turns tossing the socks into the containers. They make a fun noise when they land and your preschooler will be delighted to have a new game to play.
If you have some envelopes on hand, let your preschooler draw faces on the back of them. They'll have fun coloring something different and you can use the envelopes to send cards to family and friends as birthdays progress. Your preschooler will enjoy knowing that their creations are in the mailbox.
There are many activities for preschoolers when it comes to arts and crafts. If you come across a rainy day, use a little imagination and creativity and you can easily pass the time.
